Our client is a leading horticulture company that operates from the Netherlands and Tanzania, specialised in breeding and the production of hybrid seeds of flowering pot plants. They aim to create value for all partners in the value chain by offering powerful genetics, cultivation support and relevant market introductions in a sustainable manner.
They are now seeking an experienced Finance Controller to lead the local operations in partnership with the local and international management team. This role is based in the Arusha area, Tanzania and reports into the Group Controller in the Netherlands.
About the Role:
The Finance Controller is responsible for overseeing all financial and controlling activities at the production site and related entities. Your role involves day-to-day bookkeeping, cash management, payments, stock control, and monthly reporting, including year-end procedures. You also implement and maintain internal control procedures and administrative organization. As a key advisor and collaborative partner to management in Tanzania and the Group Controller in the Netherlands, you proactively address financial matters. Your primary objective is to maintain and improve the site's financial administration including stock management with robust control mechanisms in place, ensuring further professionalization of the department in the growing organization. Besides this internal role, you will also have a coordinating role for job-related external contacts such as tax authorities and auditors.

Your role involves day-to-day bookkeeping, cash management, payments, stock control, and monthly reporting, including year-end procedures. Your primary objective is to maintain and improve the site's financial administration including stock management with robust control mechanisms in place, ensuring further professionalization of the department in the growing organization. Besides this internal role, you will also have a coordinating role for job-related external contacts such as tax authorities and auditors.
Key Role and Responsibilities:
- Lead the financial department (2 FTEs), develop and optimize the work processes, financial analysis and management reporting.
- Set up quarterly and/or month-end reports, draw up year-end forecasts per quarter while doing regular checks on the quality of the data.
- Check, enter and process the purchase and sales invoices, order administration.
- Proper execution of the accounts payable and receivable process.
- Process bank transactions, prepare and make payments.
- Process turnover and wage tax returns and the provision of information to external bodies.
- Control/management of the payroll administration and processing of declarations.
- Optimize the planning and control cycle, including the preparation of intermediate reports and balance sheet files for the annual closing.
- Prepare the financial statements, as well as the audit for the accountant.
- Actual versus Budget preparation and discussion with management team and the Group Controller NL
- Supply chain management from purchase order to sale.
- AO/IC: mapping, recording, describing, adapting and improving processes.
- Consolidation of the entities.
- Optimize automation in coordination with the IT department in the Netherlands.
- Maintain contact with and function as coordinator for external relations such as tax authorities, auditors and consultants.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Business Economics or related, Masters degree preferred
- Experience in finance control with a focus on international trade
- Experience working in a multinational environment.
- Experience or strong interest in living and working in rural settings, such as near Arusha.
Skills and Competencies:
- Strong command of written and spoken English
- Analytical and problem-solving skills
- Good intercultural communication skills
- Ability to collaborate effectively within teams (internal and external)
