Goals:
- Responsible for current and future agricultural operations objectives and strategies (and future equivalents) and, as a member of the senior leadership team, maintains a high-level understanding of the full document
- Develops updated objectives, strategies and action plans for agricultural operations as needed
- Recommends and implements agricultural techniques and plans that are in harmony with the biosphere and the people of Príncipe
Key Role:
- Optimize the use of selected land use for horticulture based on the application of soil and plant science, fused with local knowledge of successful methods
- Optimize the use of selected land for agroforestry based on the application of soil and plant science, fused with local knowledge of successful methods
- Determine which fruits, vegetables, and herbs to grow and develop and record reliable procedures for growing them for consumption by client’s hotel restaurants and sale to the local community
- Determine which products to make based on knowledge of the growing conditions of the Island and the market(s)
- Research, recommend, develop, and record procedures for the management of cocoa plantations and other tropical crops
- Uphold good manufacturing practices in all areas of processing
- Seek to optimize processing and sales
- Understand the cocoa and chocolate markets
- Establish links with chefs and hotel teams to design menus and ensure that horticultural production meets the hotels needs
- Develop and record procedures to track expected and actual production
- Form and train a specialized team to achieve the goals
- Lead the strategic development of the marketing and sale of cocoa and chocolate
Requirements:
- Academic degree in agronomy, forestry or similar
- And/or broad background in agri producing
- Experience in agro processing, preferably cocoa
- Experience living and working in remote area in a developing country
- Passion and sense of mission for conservation and knowledge transfer
- Be resilient and culturally savvy
