Company Overview:

Our client is a major manufacturer and distributor of lime, limestone and dolomite. They are structured in 4 core regions: the Americas, Europe, Middle East and Africa. The business is expanding their presence in West Africa for the product range that focuses on soil fertility improvement, contributing to more sustainable agriculture.

They are now seeking a General Manager to open a new subsidiary in Ghana. The General Manager will, with the support of the business, be responsible for setting up operations and establishing the market. The General Manager will be the key point of contact for all operations within the country, ensuring the subsidiary’s success by developing and implementing strategies that align with the company’s global goals.

Key Responsibilities:

Subsidiary Setup and Management:
  • Lead the establishment of the new subsidiary, including legal registration and back-office sales support
  • Ensure compliance with local regulations, laws, and company policies
  • Develop and manage the subsidiary’s budget, P&L, and financial performance

Business Development and Market Entry:
  • Conduct thorough market research to identify business opportunities, market needs, and competition
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive market entry strategy, including sales, marketing, and distribution plans
  • Build strong relationships with key stakeholders, including local government agencies, partners, and clients

Sales and Revenue Growth:
  • Drive revenue growth through strategic planning and execution of sales initiatives
  • Establish and manage key accounts, ensuring customer satisfaction and long-term partnerships
  • Monitor and analyze sales performance, adjusting strategies as needed to achieve targets

Brand Building and Public Relations:
  • Act as the company’s brand ambassador in the country, promoting the company’s products and services
  • Develop and implement marketing and PR strategies to increase brand awareness and market penetration
  • Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and networking opportunities

Reporting and Communication:
  • Collaborate with and provide regular reports on subsidiary performance, market trends, and key developments to the Regional Manager of West Africa
  • Ensure effective communication between the subsidiary and the global headquarters

Team Leadership:
  • As the market grows, this role will be responsible to recruit, train, and manage a high-performing team that aligns with the company’s culture and values

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in agriculture, Agronomy or related fields (required) with strong technical competence and expertise in soil fertility and plants production
  • Experience working in the agro industry with a focus on business development in a senior capacity
  • Proven track record of successfully setting up and managing operations in a new market
  • Strong understanding of the local business environment, regulations, and market dynamics in Ghana
  • Excellent leadership, negotiation, and communication skills
  • High level of proactivity and ability to work independently while make strategic decisions in a fast-paced environment
  • An excellent conduct of spoken and written English is requested as well as the ability to work in an international environment
