Overview:
For their operations in Ethiopia they are seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Growing Specialist. This role is crucial for enhancing agricultural practices and ensuring the sustainable growth of our crops. The Growing Specialist will work closely with both local and international teams to implement innovative cultivation techniques, leverage data for better decision-making, and elevate the overall quality of our produce.

Key Responsibilities:

Cultivation Management: Oversee and manage the cultivation processes at our two farms, with a focus on long-term improvement and sustainability .

Data Utilization: Measure and analyze cultivation data to identify trends and areas for improvement. Ensure that collected data is effectively used to optimize farming practices.

Problem Solving: Address and manage challenges related to plant diseases and pests, employing both chemical and biological solutions. Develop strategies to prevent and mitigate these issues with a target to develop more biological solutions.

Innovation: Experiment with new agricultural techniques and technologies. Foster a culture of curiosity and continuous improvement among the team. Look around for new solutions and practices which will improve the productivity and reduce the footprint of the farm

Collaboration: Work closely with the Dutch and Ethiopian management team and farm managers to implement best practices and provide support. Communicate effectively with the team in Ziway, coordinating with finance and HR as needed.

Training and Development: Mentor and train local staff, imparting knowledge about advanced farming techniques and the importance of data-driven decisions.

Qualifications:
  • Educational Background: Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Agronomy, Horticulture, or a related field. Practical knowledge and a foundational understanding of agriculture are essential.
  • Experience: 3-5 years of experience in a greenhouse or farm setting. Experience in data analysis and applying findings to improve agricultural practices.

Skills:
  • Green thumb with a strong interest in plant cultivation and care.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret and utilize data.
  • Innovative thinker with a willingness to experiment and test new methods.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively share ideas and collaborate with a diverse team.
